1. Upper Age Limit Relaxations The standard upper age limit is 30 years (as of 30 April 2026) for General (UR) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates. However, the following age relaxations apply:
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years.
SC / ST: 5 Years.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 10 Years for General (UR), 13 Years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and 15 Years for SC / ST.
Ex-Servicemen (ESM) & Dependents: Relaxations apply as per existing Govt. of India and DoPT guidelines (including dependents of those who died in 1984 riots or Defence Persons killed in action).
Internal Candidates: There is no age limit for permanent employees of Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries.
Note: Even with relaxations, the maximum age of any applicant cannot exceed 56 years as of 30 April 2026.
2. Relaxation in Minimum Degree Qualification Marks
General (UR), OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), & EWS: Require a minimum of 60% marks in their respective degrees.
SC, ST, and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): Are granted a 5% relaxation, bringing their minimum required degree marks to 55%.
3. Relaxation in Computer Based Test (CBT) Qualifying Marks To pass the CBT, candidates must achieve a minimum score in both Paper-I and Paper-II. The required minimums are:
General (UR) / EWS: Minimum 40 marks in each paper.
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): Minimum 35 marks in each paper.
SC / ST / PwD: Minimum 30 marks in each paper.
4. Application Fee Exemptions
While General (UR), OBC, and EWS candidates must pay a fee of ₹1180, SC, ST, PwBD candidates, and internal employees of CIL are completely exempted from paying any application fee.
5. Important Conditions for Reserved Categories
Applying for General Posts: If SC, ST, or OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates choose to apply against an unreserved General (UR) post, they will be treated as General candidates. This means they will not receive the age limit relaxation or the application fee exemption.
OBC Creamy Layer: OBC candidates who fall under the "Creamy Layer" are not entitled to reservations or concessions and must apply as "General" category candidates.
